Eastern Flicker Chows Down on Suet in Holyoke

This is an Eastern Flicker, a great big bird with a spotted chest who surprised us today on the snowy feeder. He liked the suet and came back repeatedly, we found him in our bird book.

Nice catch, I've never seen one. My bird book says it's a type of woodpecker, but usually feeds on the ground...

Wow! A flicker this time of year! I've had one that comes in the fall and uses that beak to peck bugs out of the ground. They're so cool looking. Great shot, Max!
